NEW FBO/MAINTENANCE
CENTER FOR FORT MYERS
PrivateSky Aviation Services has announced plans for a 62,000-sq-ft FBO and maintenance facility on its 30-acre leasehold at Southwest Florida International Airport(RSW) in Fort Myers. In addition, on January 1 PrivateSky acquired JetSouth/Aviatat, the sole FBO at the airport. The FBO side of PrivateSky's new facility will include 22,000 sq ft of executive terminal and customer service facilities for its maintenance center customers. The terminal building will have a large, hotel-style lobby on the first level, with the offices located on the second level. Completion of the new facility is expected this winter.
The remaining 40,000 sq ft will be devoted to a clear-span hangar capable of accommodating up to six Gulfstreams. The maintenance service will focus on Gulfstreams initially, with 20-year Savannah, Ga. veteran Royce Stevens as general manager. The maintenance center includes a former Jet South building that will become the line service and catering center. An existing 26,000-sq-ft hangar currently being used for maintenance and storage will be redeployed for light maintenance and storage. A further 200,000 sq ft of floor space could be constructed in later phases of development, and the plans are being evaluated for entering the completion arena.
PrivateSky will be a designated installing facility for Really Quiet Stage 3 hush kits for Rolls-Royce Spey-equipped GIIs and GIIIs. The hush kits are currently going through final conformity approval with the FAA, and PrivateSky's first customer will get kit number five. That customer is based on Naples(Fla.) Municipal Airport(APF) which recently invoked a ban on based Stage 2 aircraft. Until the new facility is completed, maintenance and hush-kits installations will be conducted from the former Jet South facilities.
Jim Tadayeski will serve as manager of the FBO portion of PrivateSky. The companies chairman and founder is Vincent Wolanin an Albany, N.Y. based GulfStream owner with affiliated companies in aviation, construction, real estate, entertainment, finance and the Internet. Ed Nelle, former CEO of Butler Aviation, serves on the PrivateSky board of directors. |
